The auction for Sydney conwoman Melissa Caddick's penthouse has been shelved with the property to be put on the market for private sale.

The apartment, previously listed on the market for an estimated $5.5 million, was withdrawn from its scheduled Tuesday auction despite "significant interest", according to liquidators Jones Partners.
