Frank Reich gives insight into how Panthers will use Miles Sanders in Week 1

Carolina Panthers running back Miles Sanders was a no-go throughout the entire slate of preseason play. But that certainly won’t be the case now the games actually count.

On Friday, head coach Frank Reich offered a bit of insight into how the offense will use their new rusher. He was asked if Sanders, who nursed a groin injury during much of the summer, would be good to go for Sunday’s opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

“I think we’ll go into the game thinking like he’s full, 100 percent, whatever his full load would be,” he replied. “We’ve always envisioned there being a little bit of a rotation. He’ll be the main guy. Miles will be the main guy, but we’re not plannin’ on him carrying every carry. We wanna mix it up, keep him fresh. He’s such a weapon—and wanna be smart and pace that throughout the season.”

Sanders is fresh off a career year in 2022, where he rushed for bests in yards (1,269) and touchdowns (11) for the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. The 26-year-old is also expected to take on more work as a receiver this year, a part of his game he’s not been able to fully display in the NFL.

Outside of Sanders, the Panthers are currently carrying Chuba Hubbard and Raheem Blackshear at the running back position.
