France scraps covid travel rules for unvaccinated tourists despite case numbers rising

At present, Scotland still has many covid requirements in place which are set to end next Monday on March 21.

However as we scrap our rules, France are set to end theirs having just announced they will be removing the likes of face masks and vaccine passports next week.

From Monday, people in France will no longer have to show proof of vaccination to get into bars, nightclubs, museums, stadiums and long-distance trains.

The rule will apply to locals as well as tourists who are fully vaccinated and those who have not had any vaccines.

According to Reuters, the move comes less than a month before the first round of a presidential election - set to start on April 10 - as covid numbers begin to spike yet again.

Infections are also rising at home for many Scots with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announcing a covid briefing tomorrow (March 15).

In both countries, many officials will now be questioning whether the easing of restrictions has come premature though many people are said to be happy that things are getting back to what they were pre-pandemic now that masks are no longer needed when in schools, offices and shops - though they remain mandatory in hospitals and in public transport.

Speaking on RTL radio, Jean-Francois Delfraissy, head of France's Scientific Council which advises the government on covid policy, urged caution stating people who are at-risk should continue wearing masks as "the pandemic isn't over yet."
