Four transfers Arsenal will look to complete as Mikel Arteta eyes summer squad improvements

Arsenal's summer transfer planning has begun following a January transfer window which saw only Auston Trusty join from MLS side Colorado Rapids.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen all over the pitch and will be benefitted by top earner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leaving the club last month.

Fellow forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are also expected to leave upon expiration of their contracts this summer.

football.london takes a look at potential new signings who could come in the Emirates Stadium entrance door ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Youri Tielemans

The Leicester midfielder is likely to be subject of a summer move from Arsenal.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has already admitted that his squad is set for a summer overhaul, with Tielemans' representative already looking for potential suitors.

"You always have to [plan for life without players], that is key," said Rodgers. "You always have to be looking ahead, that’s important.

"Youri is at an age and at a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option. I would love it to be here at Leicester, that is natural, but I understand it's a very short career.

"Once the player is committed, focused and professional it’s never a worry for me. With Youri you can see his joy of being here, he loves being here and you have to respect these guys’ careers are short.

"If we are going to lose one we have to be ready for the next one to come in."

Renato Sanches

Speaking last month, the Portuguese international mentioned Arsenal as a club who have expressed interest in him.

A summer move could be on the cards with the likes of Elneny set to leave the club.

Sanches told L’Équipe: “Who is interested in me? Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested, but I don’t know. I talked to my agent, I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but now I can’t tell. But I know I’m ready. If it happens, I’ll see what’s best for me.

“Milan? It’s a great club, a historic club. It's classy. I like it. I was supposed to go to Barcelona in the summer, then my injury blew everything up. Leave in January? I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in.”

Jonathan David

football.london understands that Arsenal technical director Edu held a meeting with David's agent at the end of December.

David is on Arsenal's shortlist of strikers and a summer move could be ignited as the Gunners look to bring in a new forward.

Speaking with France Bleu Nord, he said: “Everyone knows the Premier League is a high-quality league. But my choice was dictated by the fact that above all, I wanted to be sure of playing.

“My choice was made quite early. But I understand that it took a little while to finalise between the two clubs.

“Gent wanted to keep me one more season, but I had made my choice and they respected it.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin has been sidelined since late August with a fractured toe, after scoring in all three of his side's opening Premier League games.

Mikel Arteta considered him to be at the forefront of Arsenal's striker shortlist and a summer move could be possible, although it would take in excess of £60million to land the England international.
