Four members of a family were killed when the car they were travelling in had a head-on collision with another car coming in the opposite direction on the Sathyamangalam - Mettupalayam Road in the late hours of Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
Murugan, 35, his wife, Ranjitha, 30, son Abishek, 8, and daughter Nitheesha, 7, all from Jadayampalayam at Sirumugai in Mettupalayam were returning from Karur to their native place. Likewise, three college students were returning from Mettupalayam in another car. At 11.15 p.m., when nearing Nesavalar Colony, both cars collided. In the impact, the car in which the family were travelling was completed damaged and the couple and their son died on the spot while the girl, died at a private hospital.
Four students in another car, Mohan, 21, of Anna Nagar, Chennai, Sujith, 21, of Salem, Vishal Badri, 21, of Tiruppur, and Akshara, 21, of Hosur, who was on wheels, suffered injuries and were admitted to a private hospital. The bodies were shifted to the Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam and postmortem examination was conducted and the bodies were handed over to the relatives.
Police said all the four students were studying at a private engineering college in Sathyamangalam and were staying in rooms outside the college. They had dined at a restaurant in Bhavanisagar and were returning to their rooms when the accident occurred.
Bhavanisagar police registered a case against Akshara under Sections 279 (driving a vehicle in a negligent manner, thereby endangering human life) and 304 (a) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
