Found! This Perfect Trio of Materials Makes Jessica Alba's Biophilic Bathroom Unbelievably Chic – Experts Say it's a Winning Combination

Jessica Alba.

When it comes to the most stylish bathroom looks, we're always drawn to those that have that boutique hotel feel, and Jessica Alba's stunning wet room in her Beverley Hills home is absolutely on the money. Fully clad in gray marble – from floor to ceiling – and with a slatted wooden floor, it's framed by a beautiful glass window that makes it feel enclosed yet light and spacious.

This combination of glass, marble, and wood is such an inspired wet room idea as the materials really sing together, thanks to the warmth of the wood, contrasting with the cool marble, all encased in a beautiful glass box, as if to be admired from afar, as well as enjoyed on the inside.

I've asked the bathroom experts for their take on why this look feels so elegant and how to recreate it at home, whilst my edit of glass, marble, and wood bathroom essentials, from these West Elm marble bathroom accessories, to a stylish teak bathmat (Wayfair), will give you a head start. Ready to make a splash? Let's dive in!

While we've seen plenty of marble bathroom ideas before, in Jessica Alba's home, the entire space is clad in this luxe material, giving it a new level of elevation. A similar concept is applied to the wall-to-wall wood slatted floor – it covers the entire floor, not just part of it – and the glass windows and doors, which drench the space in light and almost give it the impression of a museum exhibit in an enclosed glass case.

From a practical point of view, you might be wondering: is wood flooring suitable for bathrooms? Whilst, typically, you do have to take extra care to avoid water marks and damage when you have wooden bathroom floors, the slatted panels in Jessica Alba's space appear to be designed for drainage to avoid water pooling.

From a design standpoint, wood brings a wonderful warmth to contrast with the cool marble. Mike Whitfield, luxury interiors expert at Lusso weighs in: 'Marble is a stone with timeless, organic appeal; the dramatic, veined marble walls in Jessica Alba’s bathroom are beautifully juxtaposed with the warmth of natural wood. This interplay of textures creates a sophisticated sleekness that feels harmoniously balanced.'

Julie Taylor, Interior Designer at FLOOR360, agrees that a wet room like Jessica Alba's can serve both form and function. 'Wet rooms like this are both design-forward and functional. Placing a free-standing tub in the same glass-enclosed space as the shower keeps the splashing contained and creates an intentional, personal space that's loosely defined by a glass wall.'

Julie delves further into why the glass-encased space appeals to our more naturalistic and sensory side: 'The matte black framing of the glass defines the enclosed space without visually interrupting the openness, giving the space a more modern edge. The glass wall allows the biophilic elements like marble, wood, plant life, and sun shine through.'

This concept of biophilic bathroom design created by the inclusion of natural materials, is further emphasised by this abundance of natural light. 'The repetition of windows floods the space with natural light and reinforces the indoor-outdoor connection. The overall effect is a serene, layered space that so many homeowners are striving for,' says Julie.

Mike agrees that this design style brings a calm spa bathroom aesthetic. He says: 'Marble-clad wet rooms with freestanding bathtubs are becoming a popular choice in contemporary bathroom design as homeowners seek to transform these spaces from purely functional areas into relaxing, spa-like sanctuaries.' He adds that 'the glass enclosure is a clever architectural feature, designed to create a cocooning effect,' and concludes that this 'elevates the bathing experience, and makes the bathroom into a true focal point of the home.'
