Fortnite Showdown release date and what to expect

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 is only a few days away and will build toward one of the game’s biggest clashes yet.

The official teaser has finally confirmed the season name, Showdown, the core storyline, and when everyone can start playing. The new season looks set to blend classic Fortnite lore with some of the most recognizable faces in gaming and animation.

So, if you’re still grinding your current pass or planning to return to the island, here’s everything you need to know about the exact Fortnite Showdown release date and what to expect from the new season.

Fortnite Showdown release date and countdown

Epic has confirmed that Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2: Showdown goes live on March 19, 2026. The teaser, posted with the line “SHOWDOWN. 3.19,” confirms this as the global launch date for the new season. Here’s how much time is left for the new season to arrive:

Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2: Showdown release countdown

Epic has not published a precise downtime schedule at the time of writing, but new seasons usually arrive after a couple of hours of maintenance, shortly after the previous season ends.

You should expect matchmaking to get disabled before the new patch drops, followed by a client update, then the Showdown login screen, trailer, and Battle Pass reveal once servers come back online.

The first Showdown teaser trailer sets the tone for the entire season. In the footage, the Ice King rises from his throne in a huge icy castle, inside which multiple characters are trapped in frozen slabs, including The Prisoner, Orelia, a new Captain America variant, and The Foundation, in a fresh look.

The trailer ends by explicitly stating that The Foundation and The Ice King will return in Fortnite Showdown, framing the season around their conflict. A doomsday-style countdown timer has also appeared, ticking down to March 19, further selling this as a build‑up to a major event rather than a quiet seasonal swap.

Expected theme and map changes

While Epic has not published the full map yet, the trailer points toward a winter and Norse-inspired theme. The Ice King’s expanded fortress and the return of snowy biomes line up with older rumors that the entire island could shift toward icy, mythological locations.

Based on what’s visible and what has been teased so far, large portions of the map could be covered in snow, with POIs redesigned around ice castles, frozen ruins, and Norse motifs.

There could also be a central stronghold or boss area built around the Ice King’s new castle, and environmental storytelling, like frozen characters and shattered ice slabs, hinting at upcoming quests and narrative challenges.

Showdown leaked skins so far

Epic has not officially revealed the full Battle Pass lineup yet, but multiple reliable Fortnite leakers have started to leak some skins for Chapter 7 Season 2.

According to HYPEX and ShiinaBR, the Showdown Battle Pass currently includes or strongly features Ice King returning as a major figure and likely a premium or tier-high skin, the Foundation (remix), which is a new version of the leader of The Seven, tied directly into the main storyline, and The Order, which is another character expected to return in an updated style.

One of the standout rumors for C7S2 is a full Looney Tunes crossover inside the Battle Pass, not just the Item Shop. Current leaks point to Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, and Daffy Duck.

There are also references to Overwatch characters among the Showdown skins list, where Tracer, D.Va, Genji, and Mercy are mentioned.

Finally, there is a new Captain America skin visible in the teaser, making him more speculative than the other leaks but still one to watch, especially given Fortnite’s long history with Marvel. These can all change before and after launch, so you must take it with agrain of salt.

What can be expected from Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2

Epic has not revealed detailed patch notes yet, but past seasons and the current marketing give a good sense of where Showdown might go. A season built around two powerful characters usually means new boss encounters, mythic weapons, and event quests tied to their rivalry.

You can reasonably expect new or returning mythic weapons themed around the Ice King and The Foundation, seasonal quests that force players to pick sides, support one faction, or complete mission chains in their strongholds, and a lead-up live event before launch.

If previous collabs are any indication, Overwatch and Looney Tunes content could also bring limited-time modes or playlists, along with reactive or animated cosmetics.

How to prepare for Fortnite Showdown

If you are still working on your current Battle Pass, now is the time to finish outstanding quests and bonus goals to stock V-Bucks and styles before they disappear.

Also, I’d suggest you save some V-Bucks if you plan to buy the Showdown Battle Pass or pick up rumored Looney Tunes and Overwatch bundles on day one.

Lastly, make sure to clear storage and pre-install the updates early if you play on console or a slower connection, as new season patches can be big and take longer to download.
