Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, nicknamed Fortnite Mega, is set to drop today, replacing Chapter 4 Season 1’s Oathbound season.
Fortnite's highly anticipated new season, Chapter 4 Season 2, or Fortnite Mega, could be one of the most exciting seasons of content for many a year. Chapter 4’s inaugural season brought new weapons like the Shockwave Hammer (although it had to briefly be removed due to its incredibly high damage) and the Reality Augments perk system, and we're expecting more of the same for Chapter 4 Season 2.
We also had some excellent crossovers including Creed 3, Dead Space, Dragon Ball Super skins and The Witcher. But, many players are expecting Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 to go even bigger, particularly as Epic has named the new season Fortnite Mega. We haven't got any patch notes for the new Fortnite 24.00 update just yet, but they'll be coming very soon.
Catch up on everything we know about Fortnite Mega, or Chapter 4 Season 2.
Fortnite Mega Chapter 4 Season 2 start time
Epic Games announced on its @FortniteStatus Twitter account that Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 will come to an early end on Wednesday, March 8. We've since had confirmation that Fortnite server downtime for Chapter 4 Season 2 is set for Friday, March 10 at 7am GMT / 2am ET and Thursday, March 9 at 11pm PT. The new season, codename Fortnite Mega, will kick in once the update has rolled out.
The typical Fortnite season runs for around three months, but this season may run longer if the dedicated hashtag is anything to go by. Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 has been dubbed 'Mega' and the hashtag even has its own special emoji. Reputable leaker @iFireMonkey has discovered that this emoji is set to be disabled on July 16, 2023, indicating that the season will last at least until then.
The Fortnite servers are currently experiencing downtime as Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 rolls out.
Fortnite Mega Chapter 4 Season 2 trailer
Ahead of the launch of Fortnite Mega, Epic Games shared a teaser trailer for Chapter 4 Season 2 on their @FortniteGaming Twitter account, which we'll link down below.
There are brand new POIs, new vehicles, new skins, new weapons and much more shown off, with a futuristic map set to make its way into Fortnite for the new season. If you like the colour purple, you'll love this new season!
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass
We won’t know what is in the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Battle Pass until the launch of the new season. Although, it's probably safe to assume it will be 100 tiers, and use the Battle Stars unlocking system the game has been using since Chapter 2 Season 7. Players should also expect to unlock countless skins (some pertaining to crossovers) throughout the new season as part of the Battle Pass.
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 skins
Epic is yet to reveal any official news on Fortnite skins for Chapter 4 Season 2. However, rumours abound regarding several upcoming Battle Pass skins that will be available to unlock across the new season's tiers.
Most recently, popular Fortnite leakers @ShiinaBR and @HYPEX both claim that via a leaked image of a lizard character skin, known simply as 'Thunder', will arrive as part of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. Some very official-looking images for the character's Glider, Back Bling cosmetic item and Pickaxe are now also online and all but confirmed, which you can see below. This glider for the Lizard is apparently separate to the new futuristic bike that's allegedly incoming, which is said to be silver or chrome in colour as opposed to the glider's black and gold.
Four more Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 skins were leaked via @ShiinaBR in the lead up to launch, the most exciting of which arguably being a mystical ninja woman character that is thought to become unlockable at Tier 100. Her white outfit is contrasted by the dark and dour look of the Battle Pass skin Fortnite players can allegedly unlock at Tier 1, which appears to be some kind of flaming skull character wearing a long black coat.
@ShiinaBR's final Fortnite skin leaks, at least for now, demonstrate two very different looks that both still tie into the expected neon theme. The first doesn't have an official name yet, but looks stylish in the modern sense with 3D glasses and a hoodie. Then, there's a cosmic ninja skin expected to be unlockable a littler later on; It's suggested that this skin's name is Mystica.
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 crossovers
Family Guy
By way of upcoming crossovers, @ShiinaBR noted in January that a male skin was being worked on with the codename ‘FrenchFry’ – which matches the codename of those some files with clips from Family Guy were found as a placeholder with the Street Fighter Ryu and Chun-Li skins in 2021. As March 11 was the original date of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2, Peter Griffin could be in line for a Fortnite skin in the next season. @ShiinaBR has also stated that Peter Griffin will not be in the Battle Pass, but doesn't rule out an item shop skin.
Resident Evil
@ShiinaBR and another trusted Fortnite leaker @HYPEX both teased recently that a new Fortnite Resident Evil crossover is coming, claiming that Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield will both come to the item shop. This makes sense seeing Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake is set to launch soon on March 24, 2023. It wouldn't be the first time Fortnite has collaborated with Resident Evil either, since Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine made their debut back in 2021.
Attack on Titan
Then there's the all-but confirmed rumour of a Fortnite Attack on Titan crossover coming soon after Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2's arrival. Again @HYPEX mentioned learning as much from reliable sources, going so far as to confirm that the accompanying skin will in fact be Eren Yeager, and that he'll come equipped with his Waist Grappler as a mythic item, functioning similarly to Spider-Man's iconic webslinging. @ShiinaBR has also confirmed Eren, going on to say he will be the secret skin of this season's Battle Pass.
Star Wars
Twitter user @iFiremonkey has also suggested that the new season will once again treat Star Wars fans to a new famous character skin from the galaxy far, far way. Codenamed 'plot twist', there's no indication as to who specifically this will be. But with The Mandalorian recently enjoying its third season, might the existing Mando skin be joined by a friend?
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 gameplay changes
A first-person mode for Fortnite has been rumoured as far back as last July, when Fortnite leaker @HYPEX revealed that Epic Games seemed to begin working on the mode. Things were relatively quiet until recently when @ShiinaBR revealed that new files were added for a first-person mode in update 23.30. Leakers have since confirmed that first-person mode will be a part of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2.
Getting around by foot will seemingly be a thing of the past once Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. That's if @HYPEX's other claim is to be believed, in which they suggest that a few futuristic traversal methods will be added to tie in with the neo-Tokyo theme. Futuristic motorcycles are mentioned in the list of Season 2 leaks on Twitter, as are glowing tubes that players will allegedly be able to slide on while holding their weapon.
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 map
It wouldn’t be a new chapter without changes to a section of the map, and trustworthy leaks indicate that Fornite Chapter 4 Season 2 will be no different. Dataminers have found some files indicating that Tilted Towers could be making a return in Chapter 4, so perhaps we could see that as a part of Chapter 4 Season 2.
More likely, though, according to both @HYPEX and @ShiinaBR anyway, is that the map (or at least a section of it) will be getting a futuristic makeover. This is in direct contrast to the medieval tone Epic implemented with last season. Both leakers make mention of a 'neo-Tokyo' and have posted the same image, showing a section of the map consisting of high-rise towers and road sections. Coupled with Resident Evil and Attack on Titan characters, the appearance of neo-Tokyo fits into Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2's apparent Japanese and/or anime theme.
Chapter 3's second season brought in eight new named locations when it launched last year. Some of these newly named locations were updates to existing areas, like Command Cavern replacing Covert Cavern. Knowing this, there's every chance that when Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 launches there'll be plenty more revised locations added over time too.
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 weapons
New weapons will of course be up for grabs as part of Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. Twitter user @HYPEX indicated as such in the aforementioned list of leaks posted to their feed on Tuesday, March 2. They hint that at least one new pistol and shotgun is coming by way of firearms, while katanas and sword items will also be a big focus. With the Reality Augments system confirmed to be sticking around from the last season, the two could complement each other nicely.
