Former Tottenham youngster sends classy farewell message after clinching summer transfer

Former Tottenham youngster Josh Oluwayemi has paid tribute to the club in a heartfelt message following his summer departure. All change in the goalkeeping department ahead of the new season with Spurs confirming in June that four of their shot-stoppers would leave at the end of their contract, the youngster moved on after more than a decade with the Lilywhites.

Training with Portsmouth earlier in the summer, the 21-year-old, who did train alongside Hugo Lloris and the first-team goalkeepers at Spurs from time to time, has now signed on the dotted line at Fratton Park ahead of the 2022/23 campaign. Oluwayemi has penned a one-year deal with the League One club, with Pompey having the option to extend it by a further 12 months if they wish.

Fresh from signing a contract with the south coast club, the goalkeeper posted a classy message about his time at Tottenham on his social media channels.

"It’s an end of beautiful chapter at the club," he wrote. "I want to say thank you to all the coaching staff, the fans and the teammates. Picking me up as a 10-year-old boy, it has been an eventful 11 years with many memories and @spursofficial will always have a place in my heart #COYS."

On his move to Portsmouth, he said: "All the glory be to God. I am glad to sign for such a big club with rich history. Can't wait to get started with @officialpompey. Let’s go!!!"

Speaking about Portsmouth's latest summer acquisition, boss Danny Cowley hailed Oluwayemi when speaking to the club's official website about the transfer.

“Josh had a great footballing education with Tottenham and has amazing athleticism. He’s an incredible shot-stopper and is also good with his feet, so we’re delighted to bring him to the club," he said.

“We’ve got Josh Griffiths and Toby Steward, and he’s another young player who our goalkeeping coach Joe Prodomo is looking forward to working with and helping to develop. There is plenty of potential and he is exactly the sort of promising player that our club is looking to sign.”
