Former SNP treasurer arrested as part of police probe too 'ill' to attend Holyrood

A former SNP treasurer arrested as part of a police investigation into party finances is not attending parliament due to illness.

It is understood Colin Beattie is currently not coming to Holyrood in person and will instead work remotely.

The SNP has been in turmoil over a police investigation into how up to £600,000 of indyref2 donations were spent.

Beattie quit as treasurer last month after he was arrested then released without charge as part of the probe.

He also stood back from his role on the public audit committee.

Beattie’s appearances at Holyrood have been marked by intense media attention and questions on his police interview.

The Record has been told Beattie is resting due to an illness and will work from home.

In a statement last month, the Midlothian North and Musselburgh MSP said: “I will continue to cooperate fully with Police Scotland’s enquiries and it would be inappropriate for me to comment any further on a live case.”

The SNP declined to comment.
