Former Santana singer dies two weeks after his last concert

  • Alex Ligertwood, the Scottish musician best known as the lead vocalist for the Latin rock band Santana, has died at the age of 79.
  • His wife, Shawn Brogan, announced on Facebook that he passed away peacefully in his sleep, describing him as loved by many for his extraordinary voice.
  • Ligertwood served as Santana's lead singer on and off between 1979 and 1994, featuring on albums such as 'Marathon' and 'Zebop!'.
  • He performed his final show just two weeks before his death, with his wife noting that making music was his "favourite thing" in life.
  • Born in Drumchapel, Glasgow, he also performed with other groups, including German tribute band The Magic Of Santana, as well as Senate, Jeff Beck Group and the Average White Band.
