Former New Orleans Saints defensive end Trey Hendrickson, now a Cincinnati Bengal, has been named to the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2024, a list voted on by the players themselves. He is ranked No. 77, ahead of players like Sam LaPorta, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Saquon Barkley, and Derwin James. He ranks slightly behind Justin Herbert at No. 75, as well as Jeffery Simmons, Laremy Tunsil, and Jessie Bates III. That’s good company to join.
The Saints’ former third-round draft pick moved on to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021, and has accrued 39.5 sacks, 9 forced fumbles, 6 pass deflections, 76 quarterback hits, and 71 tackles in the span of three seasons since. He has also received three straight Pro Bowl selections, which is a tough pill to swallow for a Saints team that has struggled with the pass rush these past few years.
New Orleans had only 14 sacks last season from their defensive end position (Cameron Jordan, Carl Granderson, and Tanoh Kpassagnon), while Hendrickson on his own had 17.5 sacks in 2023. Even if you wanted to add defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd to the list, it would be a tie between the group and Hendrickson by himself. Hopefully Chase Young can help to limit that issue somewhat this season, but Hendrickson is most definitely deserving of his Top 100 selection this summer.
