Former Reform UK candidate named adviser to party’s Welsh leader

  • Corey Edwards, a Reform UK candidate, was pictured appearing to perform a Nazi salute shortly after announcing his candidacy for May's Welsh parliament elections.
  • The photograph, reportedly taken at least six years prior, sparked significant criticism from opposition parties, with Plaid Cymru describing it as “utterly disgraceful”.
  • Mr Edwards apologised for the image, claiming it “looks bad and could be misinterpreted” and that he was imitating a Welsh footballer or Basil Fawlty.
  • Despite stepping down as a candidate due to the controversy, Mr Edwards has since been appointed as a special adviser to Dan Thomas, Reform UK's leader in the Senedd.
  • Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru have condemned the appointment, arguing it demonstrates that Reform UK's values do not align with the people of Wales, while Reform UK defended the decision.
