Former Rangers manager Van Bronckhorst set for 'shock raid' to land ex-Celtic coach

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is reportedly set to make a shock move to land Queen's Park coach Anton McElhone to Besiktas.

The former Rangers manager was recently handed the top job at the Turkish Super Lig side.

And he is expected to quickly bring in new faces to the first-team and backroom team.

It appears McElhone - who worked at Celtic, Hibs, Tottenham Hotspur and New England Revolution - is a top candidate for Van Bronckhorst to take to Besiktas.

The Daily Record reports Van Bronckhorst is prepared to raid Queen's Park for the highly-rated coach.

McElhone had served as head of sport science at Celtic before moving to Hampden with Queen's Park as head of academy coaching.

Van Bronckhorst is said to be aware of McElhone from his time in Scotland as Rangers manager.

Meanwhile, Van Bronckhorst previously admitted he left Rangers 'in the wrong way'.

Insisting his departure still stung, he said: "I don't know if it makes it more difficult to return to a club you were previously successful at.

"I was a player for Rangers and went there as a manager. And I left in a way I didn't want to - in the wrong way.

"Of course, Feyenoord is the club of my heart, everyone knows that. I first walked in there when I was seven years old. But nothing is happening at the moment.

"I haven't had to think about it yet. Of course, I had a great time at Feyenoord. Four years as an assistant and then four years as a manager.

"I had a lot of wonderful moments. I cherish that."
