Former President George W. Bush made his first statement on the 2024 presidential campaign, offering congratulations to former President Donald Trump on his victory. In his statement, Bush acknowledged Trump's election as the 47th President of the United States, along with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and their families.

Bush also expressed gratitude towards President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their service, emphasizing the election's turnout as a positive indicator of the health of the republic and the strength of democratic institutions.

The former President extended his thanks to election officials, poll workers, and volunteers for overseeing a free and fair election. He joined fellow citizens in praying for the success of the new leaders across all levels of government.

Notably, Bush refrained from endorsing a candidate in the 2024 race, despite calls from prominent Republicans like former Rep. Liz Cheney and former aide Nicolle Wallace to support Vice President Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, Bush's daughter, Barbara Bush, actively campaigned for Harris by knocking on doors in battleground Pennsylvania.
