Former NRL star Gordon's drug case delayed

Former Gold Coast Titans star Michael Gordon's cocaine possession and supply case has been adjourned for six months in a northern NSW court.

The 38-year-old's case was set down for a hearing at the Murwillumbah Local Court, in northern NSW, on Thursday morning.

He was arrested at his Casuarina home in November 2020, along with six others elsewhere, as part of a NSW police investigation into cocaine and MDMA supply in the state's north and southeast Queensland.

Gordon, who played 261 NRL matches before retiring at the end of 2019, was charged with two counts of supplying a prohibited drug and two counts of possessing a prohibited drug.

He did not appear personally, but his lawyer Michael McMillan was available on the line for a phone hearing on Thursday morning.

However, magistrate Geoff Dunlevy decided to adjourn Gordon's hearing until July 28 at Tweed Heads Local Court.

Mr McMillan said in December that his client would plead guilty to two counts of possessing cocaine, but intended to fight charges of supplying the drug.

Within hours of his arrest, the Titans released a brief statement confirming Gordon would no longer be working with them as a specialist coach.

A goal-kicking fullback, he made one State of Origin appearance for NSW in his long career, which included stints at Penrith, Cronulla, Parramatta and the Sydney Roosters.

A former Tweed Coast junior, Gordon joined the Titans before the 2018 season and played 36 matches for them before retiring.

He moved into an off-field role, under coach Justin Holbrook in the lead-up to the 2020 season, which included mentoring young gun AJ Brimson.

Gordon's plan to take a coaching position at the Tweed Coast Raiders remains on hold after the NSW Rugby League warned the club not to hire him until his drugs case was finalised, News Corp reported.
