Former NFL star Richard Sherman was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence, with bail set at $5,000. The incident occurred when Sherman was pulled over for driving 79 mph in a 60 mph zone on Interstate 405 south of Seattle, Washington. According to the probable cause statement, Sherman exhibited signs of intoxication such as bloodshot and watery eyes, and he declined to take a breath test.

Following his arrest, Sherman spent the weekend in King County Jail in Seattle before waiving his right to appear at a bail hearing on Monday. His attorney indicated that Sherman was expected to be processed and released promptly. Sherman's attorney refrained from providing further comments at this early stage.

Sherman, a former three-time All-Pro cornerback, had an illustrious 11-year NFL career, notably helping the Seattle Seahawks secure a Super Bowl title in the 2013-14 season. He was also recognized on the Pro Football Hall of Fame's All-Decade Team for the 2010s. Sherman played for various teams during his career, including the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and his alma mater, Stanford University.

Notably, Sherman had a previous legal issue in 2022 when he pleaded guilty in Seattle to two misdemeanor charges related to a drunken driving incident and domestic disturbance from the previous year. He also admitted to a criminal infraction for speeding in a roadway construction zone. Sherman's next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
