Former Liverpool target Jonathan David drops future transfer hint

Lille attacker Jonathan David has outlined his intentions to play for a "massive club" talking up his capabilities of adapting to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has attracted interest from around Europe for his performances in Ligue 1, after signing for Les Dogues from Belgian side Gent in 2020.

During his time in France, he has scored 37 league goals in 85 appearances, including nine in 12 matches this season. David has courted reported interest from the likes of Arsenal and Bayern Munich with the Reds also touted with his services.

The Canadian forward has been previously linked with a move to Liverpool and the ECHO reported in January that he was on the attacking shortlist alongside Diogo Jota and Ismaila Sarr.

Liverpool began monitoring David while he was in Belgium but nothing concrete materialised as Jurgen Klopp's side made a successful approach for the Portuguese attacker.

Prior to that, enquiries were also made for the Watford forward but the Hornets refused to budge on a fee below £40m.

But the 22-year-old has discussed his aspirations as he has talked up his ability ahead of a summer of speculation. Speaking to Sky Sports, via Football Daily, David said: "For me I was always watching European football on TV so for me that was the goal, I only wanted to go to Europe.

"I think the next step is always growing, having more ambition, maybe a bigger club. I think every player wants to play for a massive club in their life, I think if I had the chance to do it, I'd do it for sure.

"I think they're two different leagues [Premier League and La Liga], I think I can adapt to both for sure, the experience I've had in France it can help me adapt to some place else a lot faster. I think both leagues suit me."
