Former Liverpool FC star delivers glowing verdict on Manchester United player Alejandro Garnacho

Argentina Under-20s manager and former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has waxed lyrical about Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho, describing him as a "great player."

United youth star Garnacho is considered as one of the most exciting talents emerging from club's academy. Signed from Atletico Madrid in October 2020, the Argentine enjoyed a stellar 2021/22 campaign, earning a senior debut for the club.

He stepped off the bench in the closing stages of United's 1-1 draw with Chelsea in April, before being given a second taste of Premier League football on the final day of the season against Crystal Palace, also via the substitutes bench. Many United fans are now keen to see him feature in Erik ten Hag's plans for the coming season.

As well as impressing for United during the 2021/22 campaign, Garnacho has also made a name for himself on the international stage, earning a maiden call-up to the Argentina senior side back in March. Although he didn't make his debut, he has since made featured for the country's Under-20s side.

He recently scored four goals at the Toulon Tournament, helping Argentina finish fifth. He also scooped the Revelation of the Tournament and Goal of the Tournament awards. And for Mascherano, the youngster is making impressive strides in his development.

"Alejandro is a great player, with a lot of potential to continue growing," said Mascherano. "It is clear that by playing in the club he plays for, and above all the importance his club gives him for the future, will depend on him for what he is capable of."

Garnacho, who turns 18 next month, is considered as the jewel in United's academy crown. He was outstanding in the most recent campaign, scoring 14 goals and grabbing six assists in 34 appearances across all levels.
