Former Leeds United youngster secures Scotland move after Whites release

Former Leeds United midfielder Josh Galloway has moved quickly to find a new club by joining Scottish League Two side Annan Athletic. Galloway was among several players released by the Whites earlier this month upon the expiration of his contract at Elland Road.

There were high hopes for Galloway at Leeds after joining from Carlisle United in 2019, but in truth has failed to ever get near the first team, despite eight teenagers receiving their debuts last season. He featured heavily in the U23s during the early days of his time in West Yorkshire, but saw game time limited following the additions of several high profile youngsters such as Lewis Bate and Sam Greenwood.

However, an exit from Leeds has been on the cards for a number of months now, after going on trial with Barrow in November – who also signed youngsters former Whites youngsters Robbie Gotts and Jordan Stevens last summer. Galloway featured once for the Bluebirds during his brief spell with the club, playing 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Burnley in the Lancashire Cup, before then missing a penalty in the shootout.

He instead made a loan switch to FC United of Manchester in January, as he helped the club finish ninth in the Northern League Premier. Galloway will now take on a completely new challenge from next season by making the switch across the border to Annan.

Annan finished third in Scottish League Two last season but missed out on promotion after a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Edinburgh City in the play-off final. Galloway will be hoping he can help them go one better next season.

He is the second Leeds youngster to head north of the border this summer, after Nohan Kenneh joined Hibs following the expiration of his deal at Elland Road.
