Former Karnataka minister B Ramanath Rai says Manipur incident brought dent on nation's image

MANGALURU: A joint action committee involving political parties, organisations and like-minded people held a protest near the Clock Tower in Mangaluru on Saturday condemning the incident of two tribal women being paraded naked in Manipur.

Joint action committee chairman and former minister of Karnataka B Ramanath Rai said that the ethnic violence of Manipur has brought a dent to the nation’s image.

"We are witnessing the consequences of the rift as people are being brainwashed with communal hatred. The Narendra Modi government had reacted in a shameless way in Bilkis Bano gang rape case. The incident repeated in Manipur now. We need to stand united to seek justice for people of Manipur. The Karnataka Assembly election result should repeat in the entire nation to teach the Modi government an apt lesson," Rai said.

Mother Teresa Vichara Vedike president Roy Castelino said the Manipur incident of women being paraded naked has made people hang their heads in shame. “The Prime Minister reacted by shedding crocodile tears to the incident only after 76 days when the Supreme Court took the issue seriously and expressed its concern. People of the nation will give an apt reply to it," he said.

DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla said that the BJP is behind Manipur violence. "They have created the violence with an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Narendra Modi, who created violence when he was the chief minister of Gujarat, is the inspiration for Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh. In the Modi administration, punishment to the accused in Manipur and removal of the chief minister will be next to impossible,” he said.
