Former Corrie star opens up about having incurable skin condition as she shares holiday snaps

Soap beauty Georgia May Foote has shared about living with the skin condition vitiligo after developing new patches on holiday. Vitiligo is a long-term condition where pale white patches develop on the skin caused by the lack of melanin, a substance in the body that produces hair, eye and skin colouring.

The condition can affect any area of skin, but it commonly happens on the face, neck and hands and in skin creases. Last summer the former Coronation Street star from Bury revealed she'd had the condition for two years.

She recalled that after initially being told that it could be a yeast infection she received a final diagnosis of vitiligo from a dermatologist. Georgia said she was developing new spots all the time with her hands mostly affected by the condition and patches mirrored on both sides of her body. This is a sign of non-segmental vitiligo, the most common type of the condition.

Georgia, 32, who is currently on holiday with her musician fiance Kris Evans, posted pictures from their sunshine break on her Instagram Stories. "So many new patches appearing on this holiday," she wrote.

Georgia added her amazement at meeting others with the condition on holiday. "And you know what I've seen someone on the last two holidays with it too," she said. "To say it only affects one-per-cent of people I don't believe."

Georgia, who was a Strictly Come Dancing finalist in 2015, said that when she gets back home she'll do a Q&A session for her followers as "I've been asked a lot about it recently," she explained.

The star, who played Katy Armstrong in Corrie, previously told fans about the condition: "I try my hardest everyday not to let it affect my mind but it does get me down at times to know I will have this for life." And she said: "I just want to raise awareness and speak out about it. If I can make anyone else feel more comfortable about it I will. It will also help me more than you can imagine."

And she said inspiringly: "I'm still me. I just have funky skin now. Like my partner says you either let it crumble you or you crack on.'"

Kris popped the question on New Year's Eve 2021 during an end-of-year holiday. The loved-up couple have been dating since 2018.

Smitten Georgia recently shared a stunning black and white photo of the couple beaming side-by-side as she wrote on her Instagram: "My forever person. The countdown is on to become your wife." And she added lovingly: "Couldn’t imagine life without you @krisevansmusic."

Georgia, was crying tears of joy as she revealed that Kris had proposed. "Mrs Evans to be," she wrote alongside a photo that showed her holding up her hand to flash her sparkly engagement ring.

Georgia, who has hailed Kris the "love of her life", shared her excitement in February as she turned 32. "Going into 32 happy and excited to become a wife," she typed with smiling photos. Also knowing it’s ok to keep becoming the best version of you. Excited to see what my own new year brings for me x"

Kris, from Middleton, was formerly part of the boyband The Mend, created by former Take That manager Nigel Martin-Smith. They made it to the live finals of Britain's Got Talent in 2012 which was won that year by dog act Ashleigh and Pudsey.

Georgia played young mum Katy in Corrie from 2010 to 2015 and some viewers were unhappy with the decision to kill off the character, ending a possible return to the soap. In 2017 her character was killed off in a car accident after moving to Portugal and her ex Chesney Brown brought their son Joseph back to the cobbles.
