Former Cleveland Browns preseason quarterback Tyler Huntley has been signed to the Miami Dolphins’ active roster. The signing (according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero) comes after the injury to Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Huntley performed in all three preseason games for the Browns and was initially predicted to make the active roster. He unfortunately lost the position to current backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. After a short stint in Cleveland during the training camp and preseason of 2024, Huntley returned to his former team’s practice squad.
The Dolphins appear to be scrambling for quarterback options as everyone weighs their decisions in Miami. Tagovailoa is scheduled to meet with NFL medical specialists soon to determine if and when he can return to the field. With Tua injured, Skylar Thompson was currently the only active quarterback on Miami’s roster. This opportunity will be great for Huntley to prove he can still be a solid backup quarterback in the NFL.
While Huntley did not have his best stuff with the Browns, he has proven his talent before on very large stages.
