Peter Mandelson, the former British ambassador to the United States, was arrested in London on Monday on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest comes after his connections to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein were brought to light.

London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest of a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in public office, though they did not name him, as per British police protocol. The individual has since been identified as Mandelson.

Mandelson was dismissed from his diplomatic post in September after details emerged about his ongoing relationship with Epstein, even after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for sex offences involving minors. Documents reported by Fox News Digital revealed that Epstein transferred approximately $75,000 in 2003 and 2004 to accounts associated with Mandelson or his husband.

Police opened a criminal investigation following the release of further documents by the U.S. Justice Department last month, which suggested Mandelson may have passed sensitive government information to Epstein.

The investigation is focused on documents indicating Mandelson’s potential role in passing confidential government information to Epstein over a decade ago, though he is not facing allegations of sexual misconduct.

Mandelson’s arrest has caused significant controversy for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as Mandelson’s appointment has now become one of the most serious crises of his leadership. Starmer has expressed regret over the appointment and apologised to the victims involved in the scandal.

Mandelson’s arrest comes just days after the high-profile arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Prince Andrew, who was also questioned by police in connection with his ties with Epstein. Prince Andrew, who was arrested on suspicion of a similar offence related to his relationship with Epstein, was released after 11 hours in custody, and the investigation into his actions continues.

The ongoing investigations into high-profile figures with connections to Epstein continue to make headlines, with both Mandelson and Prince Andrew facing serious scrutiny.
