Former Bears coach Matt Nagy promoted to Chiefs offensive coordinator

Former Bears head coach Matt Nagy is once again the offensive coordinator for the Chiefs.

Following Eric Bieniemy’s departure to Washington, Kansas City promoted Nagy to offensive coordinator, a role he previously held before landing the head coach job with Chicago in 2018.

After being fired from the Bears after four seasons, Nagy rejoined Andy Reid’s coaching staff in 2022, where he served as the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach and worked with MVP Patrick Mahomes.

It remains to be seen whether Nagy will be calling plays, as Reid normally handles play-calling duties.

After leading the Bears to a 12-4 record and an NFC North title in 2018, Nagy’s team went 22-27 and had five-game losing streaks in consecutive seasons to his name. Chicago’s offense, which Nagy was brought in to revolutionize, got progressively worse. Nagy finished his Bears career with a 34-33 record, including 0-2 in the playoffs.

The Bears will face Nagy and the Chiefs during the 2023 season, which could potentially be an international game in Germany.
