Foreign secretary Ed Miliband hints at ‘new direction’ for UK-EU relations

Foreign secretary Ed Miliband told the Labour conference that Britain’s future relies on a stronger and deeper partnership with the European Union across economics, defence, and security.

Prime minister Andy Burnham promised a new direction for the country following a decade of post-Brexit drift, strongly hinting at a rethink of the UK's settlement with the EU.

Former prime minister Sir Tony Blair urged the government to adopt a new approach to post-Brexit ties and commit to re-entering the EU within the next decade.

Economic data from the Institute for Public Policy Research highlighted the ongoing harm of Brexit, revealing a £6.5bn annual loss in exports due to a lack of mutual recognition.

Addressing artificial intelligence, Ed Miliband warned that tech corporations cannot be left to self-regulate and announced the UK will lead G20 efforts next year to manage AI safety.
