The Foreign Office has warned Brits travelling to Spain of potential "violence" and "unrest" in the country.
Demonstrations are being held across Spain as people call for an increase in wages and pensions to match rising inflation.
In a demonstration in Barcelona on Thursday, pro-independence activists blocked the city's airport and major roads.
The Foreign Office issued an alert on Friday warning Brits to be vigilant and avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place if there are signs of disorder.
The alert said: "Demonstrations, political gatherings, or marches may take place in Spain with little or no warning, particularly in cities. You should follow the advice of police and local authorities.
"While the vast majority of demonstrations are peaceful, there is a risk of isolated incidents of unrest or violence. If you’re in and around areas where demonstrations are taking place, remain vigilant and move away quickly if there are signs of disorder."
Earlier this month, Spain scrapped the last of its Covid travel rules for UK holidaymakers.
Spain had been one of 26 countries that still had Covid travel rules in place, with authorities having been expected to keep measures in place until mid-November.
Previously, Brits planning Spain holidays were still required to have either proof of full Covid vaccination or a negative Covid test if they wanted to visit.
However as of October 21, the measures were lifted early, prompting the UK's Foreign Office to update its Spain travel advice to reflect the changes.
The new rules are:
- you are no longer required to show proof of being fully vaccinated
- you are no longer required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test
- you are no longer required to show proof of having recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months.
- you are no longer required to complete a health control form prior to travel.
Destinations such as the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands boast balmy weather in the cooler months, making them ideal for winter sun holidays.
