Growing up Antoin Beag Ó Colla was the footballer “used to even out numbers” during matches.
The 39-year-old, who lives in the Georgian Quarter, recalled how he was “constantly belittled”, “really picked on” and placed in goals during PE in school. Despite this, football was something he “always gravitated towards” and he “always loved a low-stakes kickabout” with his mates.
Over 20 years later and thanks to his determination and perseverance, the script editor for Hollyoaks is now one of the “star players” of Merseyside’s LGBTQ+ football team, Mersey Marauders.
