Football fan who hurled racist abuse banned from matches

An Everton fan has received a ban from football matches for three years after admitting to shouting racist abuse.

Matthew Gillespie pleaded guilty to hurling racist insults towards a Leicester City fan during the Everton vs Leicester City game at Goodison Park on November 5 last year. Stewards became aware of the incident by fans, leading to the arrest of the 32-year-old on suspicion of a racially aggravate dpblic order offence during the match.

As well as receiving a football banning order, Gillespie, from Bebington, was ordered to pay a fine as well as costs and compensation, the Liverpool Echo reports.
