A football fan needed 'urgent medical attention' after a flare was let off at Spotland stadium during Rochdale's first league game of the season. The Crewe Alexandra supporter was treated for breathing difficulties after the pyrotechnic was ignited in the away end.
The game was stopped during the first half to allow the fan to be treated. Following the incident Rochdale FC issued a statement reminding fans flares are illegal inside football grounds. The statement said: "Rochdale Football Club would like to remind supporters about the dangers of pyrotechnics and smoke bombs.
