Football fan dies after collapsing outside Hampden Park

A FOOTBALL fan has died following a match at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

The Hibernian supporter attended the League Cup semi-final fixture against Aberdeen at the national stadium on Saturday.  Following the match, the 67-year-old man collapsed outside Hampden.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services and his death is not being treated as suspicious. 

Hibernian Football Club and Aberdeen both paid tribute to the fan following the tragic incident.

A spokesperson for the Edinburgh side said: "Hibernian FC are devastated to learn of the passing of one of our supporters outside Hampden Park after the game this evening.

"The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with the gentleman’s family, friends and loved ones. We send our condolences at this extremely sad time."

A spokesperson for Aberdeen Football Club said: "Everyone at Aberdeen FC is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of a Hibernian supporter outside Hampden this evening.

"We send our deepest condolences, and our thoughts are with the friends and family at this time."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.15pm, police were made aware a man had collapsed outside the stadium following the Hibernian v Aberdeen match on Saturday, November 4, 2023. "Emergency services attended, and the 67-year-old man was pronounced dead. "There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
