When dining out at a restaurant, it's likely you want the best and tastiest experience possible and truly get your money's worth for the meal.
The way that dishes are prepared have a huge impact on how they taste, but it can be difficult to know what to order when presented with a large and extensive menu.
But one food researcher has warned that certain options can be really lacking in quality, which is why he tends to avoid them at all costs.
Marcus Arcabascio, founder of Menu-Price, has revealed that there are six things he would never order while at a restaurant, as they aren't always as fresh as they could be.
He's shared his insight with Mail Online, urging people to be wary of certain comfort classics that you might be left disappointed by.
Macaroni cheese
This is a favourite meal for many people, but according to Marcus, it's not always made fresh at restaurants.
Processed cheese might also be used, making the dish taste bland and artificial.
He says that you're better off making it from scratch at home, as restaurants often add toppings or extra vegetables that may not be to your taste.
Chicken
Chicken is a popular choice for many restaurant-goers, but there are always risks with preparation that mean it may not taste as good as it should.
It can be overcooked, resulting in a dry and bland meal.
And if it's not handled or prepared properly, you could be at risk of contracting foodborne illnesses such as Salmonella or Campylobacter.
Scrambled eggs
An ever-popular breakfast dish, that can apparently go wrong in so many ways.
Marcus said: "'Scrambled eggs might seem like a safe bet, but they can be kept on hotplates for too long, compromising their quality."
This means they can turn out dry or burnt, and if the eggs aren't the best quality, their taste is compromised.
Brownies
For those of us with a sweet tooth, a brownie might seem like the ideal dessert.
But they're often pre-made instead of being baked fresh in a restaurant, according to Marcus, and there are often much fresher, unique choices to pick from.
Steak
Unless you're dining at a high-end restaurant, Marcus says ordering steak can be a risk.
The cut of meat can have a huge impact on how it tastes, and a lower-quality cut might not be as enjoyable as you want it to be.
As well as this, ordering your steak well-done can make it tough and chewy.
Sushi
Nothing beats sushi if you want a fresh and delicious meal, but using raw ingredients means they have to be up to standard - which some restaurants are not.
Marcus said: "In establishments not specialised in sushi, raw fish might not be handled or stored correctly, leading to potential health risks like parasitic infections.
"Plus, the taste and texture could be affected."
