Follow the queue live as people line up to see the Queen lying in state

The opportunity to see the Queen lying in state opened up at 5pm on Wednesday at Westminster Hall (PA)

The queue to see the Queen’s coffin lying in state at Westminster Hall in London has officially opened this evening.

She will lie in state for four days up until her funeral on Monday, September 19.

Thousands of people are expected to attempt to see her lying in state in this period.

A tracker on the YouTube channel of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport shows the live status of the queue, which at the time of writing has reached 2.9 miles long already.

How did the Queen get to Westminster Hall?

A gun carriage that had borne the coffins of her mother and father carried the Queen to Westminster Hall.

Tens of thousands of people lined the route in London as the coffin made its way to the venue.

King Charles III led the royal family as they walked behind the coffin, draped with a Royal Standard, adorned with the Imperial State Crown and pulled on a gun carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

The new monarch walked in line with the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex.

Behind the King were the Queen’s grandsons in a line – Peter Phillips, the Duke of Sussex and the Prince of Wales – who were followed by the late monarch’s son-in-law Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, the Duke of Gloucester, the Queen’s cousin, and her nephew the Earl of Snowdown.
