A flight from Switzerland to the USA has been diverted to Manchester this evening.
Swiss International Airlines flight LX14 from Zurich to New York, which left the Swiss capital at 3.23pm Central European Time (CET) this afternoon, had already flown over the UK and was heading over the Atlantic Ocean on its route towards New York's JFK Airport when it turned back.
The Airbus A330 plane landed at Manchester Airport shortly before 7:45pm UK time this evening. A spokesperson for Manchester Airport confirmed they had received the aircraft.
However, no reason for the diversion was disclosed.
There have been as yet unconfirmed reports that medical assistance was required on board. However, it is believed the captain did not squawk any emergency codes.
The airline's Twitter account replied to one user saying: "For the time being, we cannot elaborate further as to why the flight was diverted."
The Manchester Evening News has contacted the airline for comment.
