Five things spotted in Man United training as youngsters continue to impress and players return

Manchester United players returned to training at Carrington on Wednesday ahead of Saturday's clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.

United finished their home campaign in style on Monday night with a 3-0 victory over Brentford at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane were all on the scoresheet as United secured the three points.

Next up for Ralf Rangnick's men is trip to the south coast to take on Graham Potter's Brighton. Here's what we spotted from Wednesday's training session ahead of their penultimate match of the season.

Defensive boost for United

United received a defensive boost on Wednesday as both Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka returned to training. United's captain has missed the last two matches through injury and was only on the bench for the defeat at Arsenal.

Wan-Bissaka, meanwhile, also missed the games against Chelsea and Brentford. Both men will now add to Rangnick's options ahead of the final games of the season.

Fred continues working towards 90 minutes

United's Brazilian midfielder Fred had been missing from action since being substituted with a hip flexor injury during United's defeat at Everton. Many United fans will have been pleased to see him get a 20-minute cameo at Old Trafford on Monday as he looks to return to the starting line-up.

Fred did not look to be suffering any ill effects from the Brentford game with the United midfielder involved in training on Wednesday.

Lingard involved amid impending exit

Jesse Lingard featured again in training for United after a difficult night on Monday. In what could possibly have been his last game at Old Trafford in a United shirt, Lingard was an unused substitute against the Bees.

His agent and brother Louie Scott took to social media to slam the club for not allowing Lingard an opportunity to bid farewell to United on the pitch. Despite this, the 29-year-old remains in training and will hope to take to the field at Brighton on Saturday.

Mengi returns to United

Teden Mengi has returned to training with United in a bid to improve his fitness as he continues his rehabilitation from injury. Mengi had been on loan at Birmingham City alongside Tahith Chong but has not played since picking up an injury during the Blues' 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough back in March.

With Birmingham's season ending at the weekend, they've allowed Mengi to return to Carrington for training as he will not be fit for their last match.

Youngsters continue to feature

United's academy players continue to feature in training at Carrington. Following Hannibal Mejbri and Alejandro Garnacho's recent cameos, Alvaro Fernandez made the bench for the victory against Brentford.

All three men were pictured in training on Wednesday alongside Shola Shoretire as the academy players push for a place in the starting line-up at Brighton.
