PATIALA: Five members of two families from Rajasthan drowned in Ropar's Bhakra canal on Monday morning, while two of their children are missing after a speeding private bus hit their car from behind while trying to overtake and pushed it into the water. One of the victims is a doctor.
Dr Satish Punia, 42, of Sikar was in the ill-fated car with his wife Sarita Punia, 36, and their son Daksh Punia, 12, along with Punia's brother-in-law Rajesh Dewanda, 28, and his wife Reena Dewanda, 26, of Jaipur. The missing girls are Punia's daughter Rajvi, 3 and his niece Gudiya, 4. The family was returning from a holiday in Manali when the accident occurred near Ropar district's Ahmedpur village.
