Five children arrested as men 'attacked' outside Primark

Five children have been arrested after two men were viciously attacked outside Primark in Liverpool city centre yesterday evening.

Bottles were thrown and a man was dragged across the floor, according to a witness. They added that women and other children ran for cover.

Police were contacted at 7.55pm on Monday, May 2 following the assault on Church Street. The two men, both in their 20s, were taken to hospital with minor injuries and were later discharged.

A witness said: “I felt sick. The attack was just horrible and it really shook me up. I couldn’t really sleep.

“I tried to intervene to stop them attacking but they threatened me. I saw a man unconscious on the floor with blood coming out of his head. One man had footmarks on his head. Kids were throwing bottles all over the street and punching, booting and stamping on their victim.”

Merseyside Police arrested five males aged 12, 14, 14, 16 and 17 on suspicion of assault and affray. They remain in custody.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: “Officers responded quickly to this incident. As this was the bank holiday evening the city centre would have been busy with people.

“I want to reassure the public that Liverpool city centre is a safe place to live, work and visit. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated and we will take robust action against anyone who was involved.”

Merseyside Police is investigating and encourages any witnesses to contact them as a matter of urgency. Anyone with information or footage can upload it here.
