First Scottish pickleball national championship to be held

Following the sports explosion in popularity in the US, Scotland is set to hold its first ever national pickleball championships next week.

Invented in 1965, pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton and table tennis and has recently gained a huge fanbase in America with over five million registered players. The sport is also endorsed by several A-list celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew Perry, the Kardashians and even Bill and Melinda Gates.

Having made its way across the pond, there are currently 10,000 registered pickleball players in Scotland and already has one famous Scottish face as a keen supporter. More commonly associated with the world of tennis, Judy Murray became a fan of the sport after she took part during a visit to South Carolina.
