A man who died after being struck by a vehicle in Edinburgh been named locally as Stephen McGovern.
Emergency services were called to the Broomhouse area of the capital after a pedestrian was struck by a motor at 7am on July 4. Medics tragically pronounced a 21-year-old man dead at the scene a short time later.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Friends of the young man have taken to social media to post tributes, calling him a "funny lad" and a "good friend".
One friend said online: "Can't believe I'm writing this right now, my heart is absolutely shattered right now, I only saw you two days ago. Until we meet again my angel, keep raving up there Stephen McGovern."
Another wrote: "Absolutely devastated never thought I’d wake up to that news. RIP Stephen Mcgovern."
A third pal said: "Rest easy mate, taken way too young." While another added: "I’m honestly so lost for words, rest in peace Stephen Mcgovern, such a funny lad you were. We won’t ever forget your laugh or the hilarious memories with you."
A fifth friend commented: "A good friend...ain't good to hear when I saw him a good few days and his family are good neighbours. [Love] to the family."
The male driver of the silver Toyota Auris involved in the incident was not injured. Police closed Calder Road for five hours to allow investigations to take place and have urged witnesses to get in touch.
Sergeant Barry Sommerville, of Police Scotland's Edinburgh Division, said on Tuesday: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time. We are working to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may have information which has not yet been passed to police to get in touch.
"We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area. Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 0497 of 4 July, 2023.”
