A serving police officer charged with the attempted murder of a woman has appeared in court.
James Riley was held by police after an incident at a hotel, at around 11.30pm on Thursday, November 10. Police were called to reports of a concern for the welfare of a woman at a hotel on Upper Brook Street, Manchester.
The woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a stable condition. Riley, 27, of Lancashire Police 's south division, which covers areas including Ormskirk, Skelmersdale and Preston, was charged later with attempted murder.
