The man who died after he was bitten by a dog in Wrexham has been pictured. Keven Jones, 62, died on Monday, after his son's American Bulldog-type dog bit him at an address on Holt Road, Wrexham.
Mr Jones had been left in charge of several dogs by his daughter-in-law, Chanel Nicole Fong, who said in a public Facebook post that Mr Jones was the only person who could handle the animals apart from herself and her husband Josh. However, at around 11.20am, Ms Fong said she heard Mr Jones in the kitchen telling the dog named Cookie-Doe, to get off him.
After noticing blood coming from her father-in-law's leg, Ms Fong tried to stop the bleeding and called for an ambulance. The incident prompted a huge emergency response from North Wales Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service and the Wales Air Ambulance.
Ms Fong said that her father in law, from Chester, was a full-time carer to his wife Gail. She told the BBC: "We are all devastated, he meant so much to myself. Josh has lost his dad, Gail's lost her partner, he was an uncle and a grandad. A fantastic soul."
She said that her partner Josh bred American Bully dogs and they travelled all around the UK together to breeding and dog shows. She said he wanted to better the breed. "Cookie had been hand-reared by Josh from a pup, he was Josh's dog, but he was our dog," she said.
Cookie Doe was put down at the scene by a vet and one of the couple's other dog's, Fire, was taken away for a visual assessment.
Mr Jones is thought to have gone into cardiac arrest and despite Ms Fong attempting chest compressions and paramedics' best efforts, he died at the property at around 12.15pm. A police spokesperson said the dog was securely contained at the property before being put down by a vet at the scene.
Ms Fong wrote on Facebook: "I want to thank north wales ambulance service, air ambulance, north wales police and their special dog handling team. But after working on Keven for 45mins he didn’t take another breath.
"Today has been the worst day of my life. I have had to watch two men who I love so much take their last breath. I can’t shake the feeling of Keven's blood off my hands and all I can hear in my head is Cookie's cries.
"Cookie did not attack Keven, he’s a big boy and plays too rough. Please respect Josh and his family, myself and my family at this absolutely heart breaking time.
"Cookie was euthanised in the back garden by a trained vet and the other dogs were checked over by the dog handling team, our special girl fire was taken as she has an athletic build however the rest they were happy with and they are all tucked up in bed."
Mr Jones' family are being supported by North Wales Police. A spokesperson said: "An investigation into this incident remains ongoing and officers are liaising with the family of the deceased."
