A man who died following a disturbance in Edinburgh has been named locally as Peter Mullen.
The 30-year-old died after police were called to Leith Street, near the Omni Centre close to its junction with Greenside Row, at around 7.45pm on Friday. The dad-of-three was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he passed away a short time later.
Images taken of the scene on Saturday showed crime officers in white forensics overalls inspecting an area in front of the Omni Centre. Flowers with tributes to Peter as well as football scarfs have now been left by loved ones outside nearby hotel The Glasshouse.
Posting a picture of the tributes at the scene on her Facebook page, Peter's sister Trinity Sizer said: "We love you brother. Until we meet again."
She had earlier posted: "It is with great sadness that I’m writing this but on Friday 2nd June at 8pm we sadly lost our brother Peter. We are all in shock and can’t believe he’s gone.
"It feels like a dream, I’m waiting on him walking through the door but know he’s never coming back.
"I’ll always remember you for the good times and bad. You were my brother who was taken too soon. We can’t believe this has happened to us, it’s something that you see in the news not happening to you.
"I’m always going to ring you , message you and tell you big news. Even though you're not going to answer. I know you're listening. We all deeply miss you so so much and wish you were here with us.
"We took some flowers up with hand written notes on for you to tell you how much you meant to us and how much we miss you.
"We’ve come together as a family and we’re all going to look after your three babies. We will forever and always love you Peter it’s never going to be the same. Save a space next to you in heaven for me. LOVE YOU BIG BRO."
Peter's fiancé Bethan Weekly said the family were in complete shock adding that she was 'grateful for all the amazing memories' they made together.
Bethan said: "Never in a million years did I think I would have to write this. Last night my soulmate, my best friend and [an] amazing daddy was taken from us. Words cannot describe the pain this has caused, heartbroken is a massive understatement.
"I will be forever grateful for all the amazing memories we made together and all the laughs we had. I cant believe this has happened. Life will never be the same again. I love you so much Peter Mullen, till we meet again."
Changing her profile picture to a touching image of the pair together, Bethan later added: "I love you forever."
Detectives are currently treating his death as "unexplained", and a post mortem will take place in due course. They are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the disturbance.
Investigators believe the incident involved a number of other people. A 41-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment while a 46-year-old woman was also arrested in connection with a minor assault.
Members of the public who witnessed the incident, or who may have access to CCTV or dashcam footage covering the area, are being urged to get in touch.
Detective Chief Inspector John Morrison said: “Our thoughts are very much with the man's family and friends at this very difficult time. Our enquiries are ongoing and officers will be in the area working on this investigation.
"The area would have been busy at the time of the incident and we are encouraging anyone who may have seen or heard a disturbance to get in touch. I am also keen to speak to anyone with any CCTV, dashcam or any other footage that they think would assist the enquiry."
He added: "We will have a continued police presence in the area and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers."
