The first delivery of huge wind turbine blades to a new Ayrshire renewable energy site will arrive tonight.
The giant 64m-long turbine blades, as well as other major turbine components, will be transported from the Port of Ayr to South Kyle wind farm near Dalmellington, starting this evening from 11pm.
These convoys will travel under police escort overnight during an 11pm to 4am window, with deliveries expected to continue until September.
The first of South Kyle’s 50 turbines are due to be installed and generating electricity later this summer.
Road users can expect slow-moving traffic and minor delays during the deliveries.
Affected routes include:
• From Port of Ayr – Whitletts Road to the A77 via Holmston Road roundabout and then the A713 from Bankfield roundabout through Hollybush, Patna and Dalmellington to the South Kyle wind farm entrance.
• From Glasgow KGV Docks – M8 eastbound to M77 and A77 to Bankfield roundabout through Hollybush, Patna and Dalmellington to the South Kyle wind farm entrance.
Regular on-road resident parking along the route should be unaffected, however, for safety reasons, some parking restrictions may be required for a period on a short stretch of the north side of Bellsbank Road, Dalmellington by the care centre.
