Financial times are getting tougher and more households are reviewing their budgets to tighten up on spending and keep outgoing costs down, but now one online bank is offering £20 - completely free - to people over 18 who simply open an account with them.
In an even more impressive cash incentive, First Direct is also offering £!50 to those who switch their banking services from their current provider to the top-rated bank.
Nearly a quarter of a million current account switches took place during the last three months of 2021, as the number of customers ditching their bank to move elsewhere and gain some extra cash accelerated.
How to get free £20 cash with First Direct
All you have to do is open an account and use the mobile or online banking within three months, the £20 is then paid within the first four months.
Who can apply?
If you're over 18, a UK resident, haven't been declared bankrupt or registered for an Individual Voluntary Agreement in the last six years (or be in the process of doing so), and have a phone number and email address.
How to get free £150 switching offer
Just open a 1st Account with First Direct then, within three months, complete a switch from another current account - it can't be from HSBC or First Direct - and pay in £1,000.
The £150 is then paid within 28 days.
You can either request the switch online when applying or later, but to get the cash bonus you must do the switch before the three month deadline.
You must also switch using the Current Account Switch Service, which takes just seven working days to complete and protects your money during the transfer process.

First Direct recently secured top spot for Online Banking Provider of the Year and Current Account Switching Provider of the Year at the 2022 Moneyfacts Consumer Awards.
The awards, which champion the UK’s best banking providers, rank the category winners by garnering the views of 110,000 consumers.
First Direct ranked just behind digital challengers Starling Bank and Monzo for Banking App of the Year, while it was highly commended in the category of Current Account Provider of the Year.
Commenting on the awards, CEO of First Direct, Chris Pitt, said: “Our customers know and love us for our great customer service, and that will never change. We’ve made huge leaps forward in developing our online and app journeys for customers - so much so that it’s now the preferred way for customers to interact with us – so it’s great to see they’re rated so highly by those that use it.”
