First Dates star Merlin Griffiths has been flooded with messages after sharing a positive update on his cancer battle. He first shared the news of his bowel cancer diagnosis in September 2021 and has since kept his followers updated as he's undergone different surgeries and treatments.
In his fresh post, Merlin, who is known to viewers of the hit Channel 4 dating show for serving up drinks and chatting to prospective couples at the restaurant bar, could be seen gowned up in a hospital bed as he underwent checks a year on from his initial diagnosis.
He also shared a copy of the results from his tests as he was given the wonderful news that he was all clear from cancer. "Scroll across... 1 year colonoscopy check up for #bowelcancer," Merlin started the caption of his post. He continued with a candid insight into what he had to go through to get his results.
"Prep was soo difficult this time," he said. "Soiled the bed several times overnight, resorted to adult nappies, got about 2 hours kip. Felt like hell. First one with my newly connected arse too (sans rectum), so I was a little nervous.
"But along with my last blood tests (clear), at one year examination, we're clear! Phew." He added: "Next one at 3 years (2025). Last one at 5 years (2027). Love to all you fellow bowel cancer peeps, keep on keeping on!"
First Dates co-star Fred Sieriex was among the first to respond, simply sharing a red love heart in the comments section. And fans were thrilled with Merlin's update. @angelaxx74 said: "Fantastic news sending love." @janenewell24 wrote: "Great news - your honesty and frankness is a credit to you."
@the_road_is_very_clear shared: "Just hearing the word ‘clear’ for another year, means so so so so so much. I know. Congratulations." @rapsonofman replied: "Well played @merlinfdc4 Good job through difficult time!" @carolyn_watson56 commented: "That's great news, onwards and upwards, 18 years free for me, bowel prep small price to pay for great results, well done Merlin."
@postcarreg typed: "Well done Merlin. Thank you for sharing - honesty is so important and helps so many people. Wishing you continued good health." @lefry81 posted: "Oh Merlin, as a child of a beautiful Mami with bowel cancer, thank you for sharing your journey.
