FIREFIGHTERS battled tough conditions for several hours overnight to bring a blaze under control south of Redhead.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews and police were called to reports of a bushfire in the Second Creek area from about 8pm on Friday, September 27.
At least six fire trucks rushed to the scene, after first responders called for back up, and crews found a fire about 100 metres by 100 metres burning in a wetlands area.
An FRNSW spokesperson said the terrain was inaccessible with their vehicles, and firefighters had to utilise tactics which meant the fire took some time to extinguish.
The blaze sent smoke billowing in the Lake Macquarie area overnight and fierce orange flames were visible to some residents, before it was eventually put out at about 3am on Saturday, September 28.
Patrols continued throughout the night to black out any hotspots and keep an eye out for any flare-ups.
The FRNSW spokesperson said there was no confirmation at this stage as to how the fire started.
