Dublin firefighters have been tasked with taming a bush blaze in a Dublin park this afternoon as the summer heatwave thrives on.
As temperatures reach high twenties for some, the Department of Agriculture has issued a Status Orange due to the potential for forest fires, which will remain in place until Wednesday.
The bout of stunning heat is expected to come to an abrupt end on Tuesday night when thunderstorms and heavy rain showers are forecasted to move in.
In the meantime, Dublin Fire Brigade rushed to the scene of the fire in Tolka Valley Park in Finglas on Saturday morning.
Confirming the news, and warning the public, Dublin Fire Brigade took to social media and said: "Firefighters from Finglas are dealing with overgrowth on fire in Tolka Valley Park. A Condition Orange: High Fire Risk is in place nationwide until Wednesday."
People are reminded that with the recent hot weather, and since there has been little rain in recent days, the vegetation has had a chance to dry out and is, therefore, more flammable.
A fire is more likely to start, and continue to burn, in hot, dry, and windy weather, therefore, Coillte issued the following advice to those who come across a wildfire over the coming days:
- Do not light fires in and around forests or open land
- Do not attempt to intervene or fight fires under any circumstances
- Gather all family/group members and move to a safe fuel-free location such as a car park, upwind of the fire
- Telephone Fire and Rescue Services via 112 and report the fire and its location
- Evacuate if instructed to do so, and cooperate with all Emergency Service Instructions
