Firefighters called to 2 incidents within an hour at Broxtowe Country Park

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service attended two separate incidents at a Nottinghamshire country park. Crews from Stockhill Fire Station were sent to Broxtowe Country Park on Wednesday, August 10, after they received a call about a grass fire.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "The first one was at 4.10pm. It was Stockhill fire crew who attended and this was 20 metres of grass and undergrowth on fire.

"We had that out and left the scene in 20 minutes." Shortly after this incident, the service got another call at 5.30pm about another fire at the country park, which was separate to the incident they had dealt with earlier.

A crew from Stockhill Fire Station returned to the country park to deal with the incident, which "was one hectare of green and undergrowth on fire." Since April 2022, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue has attended 718 grass fires, which is 372 more than in April to July 2021.

As the hot weather continues this week, the fire service is asking the public to help them prevent fires by not using barbecues and being careful when disposing of cigarettes and glass bottles. The service is also asking people to download the What3Words app that can help them quickly establish your location in an emergency, and reminding people to only enter water when a lifeguard is present.

If you know a fire to be deliberate you must also report this, including barbecues and camp fires in open spaces. This can be done by calling Firestoppers anonymously on 0800 169 5558.
