Police suspect a tree fire which spread across more than 2300 square metres of land near a popular trekking trail in the Molonglo Valley was a result of arson.
The incident was reported about 8pm on Tuesday, October 8, prompting emergency services to rush to Forest Drive next to the Molonglo River.
Several residents reported seeing the flaming trees along the Bicentennial National Trail from their homes across the river, online on Facebook.
The blaze continued for more than an hour before firefighters were able to extinguish it.
The ACT Rural Fire Service returned to the scene of the fire on Wednesday morning and afternoon to investigate, an emergency services spokeswoman said.
"[The fire] covered 0.24 hectares," she said.
"Some pine trees have been burnt in the area."
She added the incident had been handed over to ACT Policing.
A police spokesman alleged the incident occurred due to arson and asked community members if they had any relevant information to call Crime Stoppers.
The bushfire season began on October 1 with emergency services warning bush and grass fires are almost guaranteed to occur.
