Fire at Wadia hospital in Mumbai as doctors 'operate on kid'; crisis averted

MUMBAI: Fire erupted at the Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital in Parel around 7 pm on Friday, after which eight fire engines, six water tankers and an ambulance was rushed to the site. No injuries were reported in the incident, but sources said just before the fire broke out, a team of doctors had started operating on a child in the first floor OT.

The fire erupted shortly after the child was opened for the abdominal procedure, said a source, adding that on hearing a loud noise, the doctors closed the incision without wasting any time, and managed to move the child away from harm's way. Some said two more kids were in the waiting area inside the OT complex and would have been sedated soon since they were also scheduled to undergo procedures. A quick response helped the medical teams avert any major crisis, the source said.
